My Priorities

Why I’m Running for Re-election

It’s been a “fast” two years since I asked for your support as a city council candidate. My Call to Action was a commitment to affordable housing, sustainable solutions for homelessness, climate action, universal digital access, and reduction in traffic congestion. Much has been accomplished since January 2023. Please see the “Achievements” page for more details.

Moving forward, my priorities continue to be anchored in the city’s vision for an equitable community that is walkable, healthy, and accessible for everyone. I believe that vision can’t be accomplished without an overarching climate mindset. Excessive heat, unpredictable fires or flooding and harmful air quality drastically impact our ability to create a thriving community.  With that as my foundation, I will continue to focus on the following:

  • Reducing Houselessness: Engaging fellow citizens, advocating to state legislative representatives and collaborating with regional partners for a balanced approach to this crisis.  We must meet the needs of those unsheltered while sustaining a safe, walkable and livable community.
  • Expanding Affordable Housing and Rent Assistance: Tigard continues to be a severely rent burdened community where 28% of Tigard residents spend more than 50% of their household income on rent. Expanding affordable housing must be thoughtfully planned and incorporated into a community that offers safe streets, walkable shopping and easy access to parks, recreation and transportation.
  • Modernizing Facilities: Successful passage of a capital bond measure for a new Public Works and Public Safety facility.  City facilities require untenable levels of maintenance and repair due to their age.  Our facilities are overcrowded and do not meet the needs of a growing city.
  • Economic Development and Livability: Continue to grow and build a welcoming community through economic development.  The City of Tigard offers multiple programs to support entrepreneurs and help them find their home in Tigard.  I am proud of the work being accomplished in our urban renewal areas downtown and within the Tigard Triangle. The food carts at Universal Plaza are financed through our launch pod program. We must continue to invest in our spaces, so businesses and our community thrive together.
  • Climate Action initiatives. The City will continue to “walk its talk” through expanded electric vehicle purchases, strategic partnerships offering carbon reduction solutions to community members, and installing our own solar panel micro-grids in public places like the library, the Tigard Triangle and the future home of our Public Works and Police Department facilities. I will continue to support housing solutions that create communities that are walkable to parks and local businesses.
