Maureen Advocating for the City of Tigard at our Nation’s Capitol
2023 Tigard Chamber of Commerce “From the Heart” award recipient.

As a long-time Tigard resident, I have a deep commitment to my community. I was raised in rural Indiana where the importance of community involvement was instilled in me at a young age. Both of my parents were actively engaged as community volunteers and leaders, and the values and principles they role-modeled guide my work as a city councilor representing the citizens of Tigard.

Community Volunteer – Community Engagement

Since choosing Tigard as our home, I have engaged in various capacities to improve opportunities for children and enhance the community for all families.

I was an elected member of the Tigard-Tualatin School Board for 12 years (2009-2021) and held board leadership positions for 8 of those years. During that time, TTSD was a leader in early learning opportunities for preschoolers, expanded career-technical education programs, and created a K-12 dual immersion program in Spanish. I also served on the Oregon School Boards Association board for ten years, and as president in 2021. OSBA was a leading partner in the successful advocacy campaign for the Student Success Act which provides over $1 billion in annual resources for underserved students. I currently serve as vice chair with the Northwest Regional Education Service District Board of Directors where I am focused on high speed digital access for all students and their families, as well as ensuring the delivery of innovative special education services in areas such as early learning and early intervention.   I am also a volunteer for the Oregon Community Foundation where I am a Community Impact grant evaluator, supporting grants that provide additional resources to our local social service providers.

From 2004-2009, I served on the board of the Foundation for Tigard-Tualatin Schools. During my tenure I co-led “Bridging the Gap,” which helped fund full-time elementary music teachers during a challenging financial time for the school district. In 2020 I co-founded Packed With Pride, the community-based food program created to provide food boxes to school families when TTSD school buildings were closed due to the pandemic. Since its inception Packed with Pride has raised over $850,000 and provided more than 55,000 food boxes to families in need from Tigard and surrounding communities.

Additionally, I have served as Treasurer/Director of Fundraising for the Election Information Advisory Committee, a citizens group that successfully passed several Tigard-Tualatin School District financing measures to build or update schools and provide continued funding to hire teachers and maintain school programs.  And in 2024 I led the Keep Tigard Safe campaign for the City of Tigard’s public safety levy renewal, which served as the advocacy arm for the ballot measure. The renewal passed with an overwhelming 78% voter approval.

In recognition of my efforts, I was honored to be the 2023 “From the Heart” award recipient, presented by the Tigard Chamber of Commerce.

Family

I have been married to my husband Bryan for 30 years. Our two children are Tigard High School graduates and graduated from Oregon universities. My daughter will be married in September, and we are excited to see our family grow! I love to hike and spend time with my family here in Oregon as well as Indiana.
